Making natural soap is so much fun! I have been making milk soap for over 15 years.
I started making soap because I wanted a better alternative to the harsh, store bought detergent type soap. At the time, we were milking dairy goats so making milk soap seemed the obvious choice.
I have made many different kinds of soap over the years but really wanted to make a simple ingredient, 100% natural soap for people who are concerned about what they put on their skin and therefore, into their bodies.
On our farm, we produce lots of creamy white, pastured lard. Lard is what our great grandmothers used to make homemade soap. It is very moisturizing and also makes a hard soap bar that doesn’t just melt away in the shower. The other main reason I wanted to make a predominately lard bar of soap is because so many of the liquid oils used in natural soaps are rancid. My lard is made fresh here at home. Because it is a saturated fat it stays fresh much longer than vegetable oils. Your skin is the largest organ in your body – what you put on your skin is so important because if effects the health of your entire body.
In order to make our soap even better for you, I also add in raw milk- this makes our soap moisturizing and also adds some probiotic qualities. Finally, I color our soap with completely natural clays and scent with either essential oils or 100% natural fragrance oil. A completely natural, good for you bar of soap and since you use soap every day don’t you want it to benefit your body not be harmful?
You can find our farm soap at the Liberty Lake Farmers Market . If there is a particular scent you like, let me know and I can create a custom soap just for you!
